CHURCH EDUCATION
Did you know we have age level representatives assisting our churches in children's youth and adult CE ministries? Feel free to connect with them if they can be of help to you in your discipling of those in your church. Our Children's Representative is Jan Gray of Terrace Alliance, and our Youth Representative is Andrew McGregor of Fort St. John Alliance. Jim Postlewaite, of our Peace Portal Alliance Church, is trying to find ways to assist our adult CE workers but is taking a hiatus from this for a few months. Each of these has been hired by the district from their churches for two days a month to partner with our churches. Contact Larry if you have questions.
Plan to Protect is Moving Forward
Our District CE Committee is working with Larry to connect with our churches assist them in any way possible toward the implementation of Plan to Protect, a safety and risk management tool for our children's and youth ministries. The committee met November 24-25 to discuss goals and needs related to this, and your church should be hearing from a member of that committee (a representative of your region) in the near future. Most of our churches are working at getting their Plan to Protect into place, while a few need special assistance. One of the special challenges has been in relation to helping non-English speaking CPD churches or congregations, and toward that end a summary is being finalized and translated into several languages. A summary of the critical policies and procedures fro our churches in having a Plan to Protect, in English and translated versions, will be going out to our churches as early as possibly in the new year, following approval and support by DEXCOM.
In the meantime, if you have questions or needs regarding your Plan to Protect, feel free to contact Larry at the district office, or Jan Heppner our Plan to Protect Consultant (working two days a month for the district), or your regional representatives:
Gord Klassen : northern BC
Jan Heppner : Okanagan and Kootenays
Vicki Bowker : Fraser Valley (Hope to Surrey)
Jason Cheung, Lawrence Kong : Greater Vancouver
Joel Croswell : Vancouver Island
Backcheck Important Announcement
Many of you may have already received notification regarding some changes that have taken place regarding the way that Criminal Record checks are being done through the program many of us use known as Backcheck. Backcheck is now being required to limit some of the information regarding criminal records that is sent back to the employers, as CPIC is requiring fingerprint comparison in order to release detailed records. Backcheck is working at solutions to the complications this may cause, and is hoping to find a good solution that will work for our churches and work with the policy changes as well. If you require further information regarding this change, please contact your Backcheck Service Representative, or stay tuned to our District Office for further updates.
