Staff Retreat is for our licensed workers and their spouses in the Canadian Pacific District.  It is a time of relaxation, inspiration and fellowship with one another.  This is an informal event, designed to draw us together and spring us into the rest of the ministry year!

GUEST SPEAKER
Dr. Steve Elliott

Steve Elliott is a graduate of the Beeson Pastor's doctoral program at Asbury Theological Seminary ('98) and has served First Alliance Church in Lexington, Kentucky for the past decade.  He and his wife Marilyn served for 20 years in the Western Canadian District in Stony Plain and Foothills in Calgary.  Steve brings a strong and proven background in preaching and pastoral leadership to events such as this.
As a self confessed, 'turn around guy', he has brought renewing change and spiritual health to hurting and declining churches.  He'll also tell you with a smile that he serves under the constant suspicion of his present church board for refusing the lead "a purpose driven life."  Steve enjoys hunting and fishing in the fall, and travel, reading and yard work year round.

   Steve will be speaking to us on the pastoral life and leadership from the lives of Old Testament characters.  We look forward to learning from him and gleaning new insights out of God's Word as we spend time together over our days at Retreat.

 

 

 

 BREAKOUT SESSIONS

On Wednesday there will be two concurrent workshops offered.  

  • Imagine 
    Women in ministry and pastor's wives will have the opportunity to hear Karen Braun share from her heart and her background. Karen is a published author and trainer, passionate God-story teller, determined intercessor and transparent leader.
  • Speaking from the Pulpit
    Dr. Randy Ritz is a master storyteller, a passionate educator and performer.  As a communication coach, he has helped thousands of actors, educators and pastors sharpen their ability to hold an audience.

STAFF RETREAT COSTS

Recognizing the many pressures that are on our churches and staff financially, we have kept our Staff Retreat costs at the same price as last year.  There will be no increase in your registration fee despite the rise of costs to put on an event such as this. We hope that this will allow our churches to send as many of their staff as they are able!

  • Licensed Worker: $295.00 (registration includes the catered meals - brunches and a banquet). Lodging and Travel are your own responsibility.  Meals other than those catered are your own responsibility. There is a rebate program which will be offered at Staff Retreat to a few eligible churches.  Spouse of Worker: $110.00 (includes catered meals as above).
  • Retired Personnel and their Spouses: $80.00 (includes catered meals as above)

  **There is a minimal $4.00 service fee associated with each registration as well.

LODGING

Booking accommodations at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort and Conference Centre in Kelowna is the individual's responsibility.  Please be sure to make your reservation before December 14, 2011 to ensure you are able to get the discounted rate for rooms reserved by the District!

Prices are as follows:

  • $100.00*plus taxes for Standard Single/Double with one or two queen beds
  • $150.00*plus taxes for Deluxe Room
  • This is only for single or double occupancy.  For triple or quadruple occupancy there is an additional charge of $20.00 per person
  • We are pleased to be able to offer complimentary internet from the hotel for all of our attendees staying at the Grand.
  • There is an additional charge for parking each day charged by the hotel at $12/day.

**Please note that the Delta Grand is pleased to extend the conference rate for two days before January 16 and two days after January 19 for those that want to make the retreat last longer!

TRAVEL

There is a District Staff Retreat Travel Rebate System. The Rebate program will be made available for eligible churches at Staff Retreat.  If you have questions in advance please contact Shelby Thiessen by email.

CHILDREN

Please note that this retreat is meant to be a time for our workers to relax and connect with God and one another.  The atmosphere of the event does not lend itself to children, and we ask that those with young children make other arrangements so that disruption during the event is limited, and so that you can enjoy the atmosphere of rest and relaxation.  Nursing mothers and babies of course are welcome, but please remember to be respectful of the quiet, reflective times during sessions.
