50 Days of Prayer

“Spiritual Running; Preparing our Hearts for a fresh encounter with Jesus at Assembly 2008”

All across North America we are seeing the “Running Room” phenomena taking hold.  People of different ages, ethnic backgrounds and levels of fitness are forming “Running Communities.” In these “running communities” the goal is to encourage one another to become physically healthier and stronger in an environment that is challenging and fun.

General Assembly

The theme for General Assembly 2008 is “RUN!” It embraces the passion of the apostle Paul when he declared “forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” (Phil. 3:13). Our family of churches throughout Canada is longing to be a movement of churches, transformed by Christ, transforming Canada and the world.” It is time for us to surge forward with fresh enthusiasm to see our vision prayer become a living reality. This coming General Assembly could be a catalyst to pull us forward in realizing of vision prayer of being a transformational movement! But it will not happen unless our hearts are ready. A.B. Simpson once wrote:

Activity could never substitute for prayer: "We cannot go through life strong and fresh on express trains, with 10 minutes for lunch. We must have quiet hours, secret places of the Most High, times of waiting upon the Lord, when we renew our strength and learn to mount up on wings as eagles, and then come back, to run and not be weary, and to walk and not faint…. The best thing about this stillness is that it gives God a chance to work."

Therefore, in preparation General Assembly it is time to form “Spiritual Running Communities.” Imagine the impact it would have if Alliance people all across Canada set aside time each day for 50 days leading up to General Assembly to pray for God’s anointing.  I am extending an invitation to every Alliance Church in the Canadian Pacific District to set aside May 11 to July 2 as a time to run with the rest of Canada. Each church should have received a prayer guide from the National Office as a map to start your “spiritual running.” You can also download a “prayer guide” from the national office website @ www.cmalliance.ca. Find creative ways within your church community to join together and ask God for a fresh encounter with Jesus. These are days of amazing opportunities to advance the Kingdom of God. The gun has sounded, the race has already begun. It is time to run…..
