Most churches are the result of a "mother" church, or two or more churches partnering together, to begin a new work in their own area of even another community. Some of the ways that is accomplished are:
- A Mother church launches a daughter
- A "church within the church" meeting on the same site but having its own identity and target audience
- A "satellite" church, meeting in another location, but having close ties and some sharing of programs, leadership and/or resources with the mother or partner churches
- A "cell" church, meeting in a home
- Adoption by one church of another church which is struggling to survive and working with it as a "re-start"
- House church movements
