While all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season threatens to tempt, distract and mislead us, it seems hard to believe that anyone really even knows the true meaning of Christmas anymore.  While Wal-mart highlights low prices, and Best Buy focuses on getting the present with the best reaction, churches are trying to draw people to the Christ child.  To remind one another of what God has done for us.  But often we try to compete with the world, using the best entertainment, the greatest new desserts, whatever we can do to get people into our doors over the Christmas season.  And while it may get people in, sometimes we forget that the simplest message is often the most powerful.  In the classic Charlie Brown's Christmas show, Linus reminds us of the reason for the season and brings us back to the simple story that is recorded right in God's word:

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.  And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
-Luke 2:8-14

This Christmas, may we remember how our lives have been changed by that one little baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.

Merry Christmas!
