HOME ALONE - "God Is With Us"
Rev. David Hearn
District Superintendent

When our children were younger, we decided to leave our girls "home alone" for a few hours while we went shopping for some Christmas gifts.  We stressed that they were not to answer the door under any circumstances and that if they were afraid to call us on the cell phone.  Everything went smoothly for the first hour but then the girls heard a knock at the door.  They panicked!  "It must be a predator!"  "We are in danger!"  Our eldest daughter Jessica immediately began to call us on our cell phone while Alysha ran into the kitchen to find a pen.  She wrote in BOLD LETTERS on her hand and then on Emily's hand the words "GOD IS WITH US!"

It turned out to be just a friend from the church and the danger was only perceived not real.  However, when we returned home we were surprised to see the ink tattoo on Alysha and Emily's hands.  We asked Alysha why she wrote those words down and with great passion she declared, "So I wouldn't FORGET!" Christmas is the moment in History where the Divine Author sent the Word, his Son, Jesus Christ and wrote into human history, "Emmanuel - God Is with Us!"  In the midst of the fears and uncertainties, the unexpected knock at the door, we are sustained by the everlasting truth that we are NOT ALONE.  God the Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer and Sovereign Lord is "WITH US" and we can rest in Him.  We are never HOME ALONE!
